An arrangement of “Away In A Manger” using the less common (but still common) tune cradle song as its basis. The arrangement is tender, features melody in both men and women, and has been extremely well received wherever it has been performed. It makes an excellent addition to any Christmas or Winter Holiday program.

Interestingly, the hymn was one time believed to have been written by Martin Luther, but as the evidence seemed rather anecdotal, it is now considered to be of anonymous origin.

Text (anonymous)

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
the little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay,
the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
but little Lord Jesus no crying He makes,
I love Thee Lord Jesus! look down from the sky,
and stay by my side till the morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay
close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
and fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there.

-to God alone all glory is given-
