“Are You Ready?” is a second coming spiritual harkening back to the Adventist spirituals of the Great Advent Movement of the mid 1800s. The text dialogues between one set of believers and another asking the important question “Are you ready for Jesus to come?” The work alternates with answers to that question, statements of faith, belief, hope and longing to forever be with Jesus in heaven. It may be easy to imagine you are at an old second advent evangelistic and revival meeting as the joy in the dialogue and the musical intensity builds to the climactic finish declaring, “forever I will praise Him in the heaven to which I go!” This piece is a dynamite closing selection for a program.

Text (by Michael Sandvik)

Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Oh pilgrim are you ready?

I am ready, I am ready for Jesus to come.
I long to be glory bound.
I am ready, I am ready for Jesus to come.
My Jesus come take me home.

Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Oh pilgrim are you ready?

Sound the loud cry
for our King is drawing nigh,
it won’t be long ’til He shall appear.
So let the gospel trumpet blow;
soon to heaven we will go,
for Jesus our Savior is near.

He’s a comin’!

The judgment day is a comin’,
the judgment day is near,
rejoice all ye people,
for the Lord will soon be here.

Oh Jesus my Savior,
you know I love you so.
And always I will follow
the Lamb whose voice I know.
And with the saints made perfect,
by the streams where living waters flow,
forever I will praise Him in the heaven to which I go.
Praise Him!

I am ready, I am ready for Jesus to come.
I long to be glory bound.
I am ready, I am ready for Jesus to come.
My Jesus come take me home.

I will praise Him.
Forever I will praise Him in the Heaven to which I go!

-to God alone all glory is given-
